Curtis Lee Turcotte was born in the summer of '72 in Val D'or, Quebec and has called Victoria, BC, Canada home for 35 years. Domestic violence led Curtis Lee to begin training in the summer of 1988 and he had his first competitive match later that year, winning with a first round knockout.
Curtis continued his amateur career fighting in tournaments and in ring matches, in the process, winning local and national recognition. In November of 1994, he lost an opportunity to win the BC title in a 5 round majority decision. In the grudge match, Curtis bounced back and won a unanimous decision in a style could only be described as a Muay Thai. In the local kickboxing community Curtis was the first to embrace the Muay Thai fighting style.
In the year 2000 Curtis felt driven to go to where the sport had its' beginnings, so he traveled to Thailand and trained under some of the world's best Muay Thai trainers. He would return to Thailand 3 more times competing in the ring and even had some street altercations!
As an owner operator of nightclubs in the Victoria area it was natural that Curtis would be the head of security and it was in this role that Curtis developed a taste for real world martial arts training.
A growing number of students and training partners inspired Curtis to open his own training facility in the summer of 2004. This gave Curtis the opportunity to implement training techniques and styles that he had learned through out his career both in and out of the ring.
Curtis Lee posses a wealth of knowledge of both in ring and out of ring techniques that he calls Self Offense. His teaching style drives students to exceed their expectations and with the credentials to provide training to students of any skill level.
